Totally Worth It

I know I’ve mentioned that there are so many stories out there similar to that of ours and the three boys. Last night I came home to an email from someone whom I’ve known for a while and have had the greatest respect for. She is one of THE nicest people you’ll ever meet. She has no idea how much her email inspired and encouraged me. I shared it with Jessica, who’s experience growing up was very similar and she expressed the same sentiment as me.

I am posting the email with permission:

“Marc – I just wanted to write and tell you how touched I am that you and your wife took in three children to care for them. My parents were very young when I was born, and after their divorce, they were unwilling and unable to care for my sisters and I, who were 5, 3, and 1 at the time.

After my mom’s family all refused to take us in, we ended up bouncing from foster home to foster home, and I was in charge of my sisters more often than not, as I was the oldest. I attended 6 different schools in 1st grade alone. For years, I was the one who got my sisters up and ready for school, made them breakfast, combed their hair, packed their lunches, helped them with their homework, gave them their baths, and did all the things an adult in our lives should have been doing.

Talking to you this weekend, I couldn’t help but think what a difference it would have made in our lives if someone like you had been there for us. I know it has to be challenging beyond belief in ways that I can’t even begin to understand, but please know as someone who’s been on the other end of that situation, that what you’re doing will make such a positive impact on those little lives. My heart is full of gratitude and hope because of you. Thank you for making the world a better place.”
