In the past few days, we’ve had Milwaukee showing its ugly side.
And for as long as I can remember, social media has turned to a hotbed of vitriol, trolling and, well, disrespect, in general.
I’m no exception. I have taken part. I have engaged. I have been disrespectful, and I have been part of the problem. It’s hard to avoid sharing your opinion when you feel someone is wrong. It’s especially hard when you don’t understand where the other person is coming from, and have no desire to understand. As it turns out, I may, in fact, be among the worst offenders; not just on my Facebook Wall, but on the walls of others.
So, yesterday, I decided I am simply not going to engage anymore. Instead, I’m going to just post photos of happy, intelligent kids. Kids who have it right. Kids who know better than we do. Kids who are too young to understand how stupid we adults really are. Kids who know that it’s not about the color of our skin, or how much money we have in our bank accounts, but know the difference between being respectful and earning respect from others. So, that’s what I did. I flooded my Facebook wall with kids. When someone engaged with me I responded with a photo of a kid. And you know what? My wall, for the first time in a long time, was a happy place that made me smile. I think I might just keep it up for a bit. 🙂
This was my flood from yesterday. Hope you enjoy. 🙂
